Also installed some gcc build-essential ruby-dev and so on...

Is borked atm...
I believe this dark magic helped: https://stackoverflow.com/a/38277320
I needed to revisit https://docs.bitnami.com/aws/apps/discourse/configuration/install-plugins/
Also installed some `gcc build-essential ruby-dev` and so on...
This pavilion plugin seems to be more about connecting external calendars.
Learning the hard way, as always.
Annnnnd actually, now I think that plugin is not even The One. I think we need think we need this https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-calendar-and-event/97376 for the "create event" UI and the related calendar.

It's so confusing.
We installed Pavilion `discourse-events` on https://forum.comicgewerkschaft.org and it added both the "add event" UI, and calendar view, but it required some diabolical hacking to get going. Maybe https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-calendar-and-event/97376 is better idk.
Phew, yeh it's hard. Ended up with https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-calendar-and-event/97376 which allows you to choose a category as an "event category" which then turns all posts of that category into an entire calendar view listing. You can add an event "widget" into the post in the category which people can do RSVP in. It was easier to install than the pavilion one.
