The question

The cross-ladder grid puts ladders in columns and ranks in rows. A deployment has many ladders and few ranks, so the grid grows sideways and scrolls sideways, which was visible the first time it was verified against real data. Transposing it, ladders down the side and ranks across the top, fits the shape of the data. Is that the better read, at the wide width and the narrow one?

What depends on the answer

The grid and the captures that pin it, and the direction ranks are listed in, which is the same axis seen from the other side.

Options known so far

Keep ladders as columns, and let the page scroll sideways past a handful of ladders.
Transpose, so a ladder is a row and growth goes down the page, where scrolling is free.
Decide by width: one orientation on a wide screen, the other where the screen is narrow.
