What a person cannot do today
Buy or be granted credit ahead of time and have it pay for services as they are used. Every charge today is billed at its own price with nothing to draw down from.
What they should be able to do
Hold a credit balance, see it on their billing page, and have invoices draw from it before charging a payment method; an operator can grant credit and see the ledger.
Why it matters
Prepaid credit is how flexible and usage-based services are usually sold, and it is the mechanism the usage-metering milestone would bill against.
Where
The billing model (a credit grants table and a credit transactions ledger), the invoice projection, and the payment provider's customer balance, which is where applied credit has to be reflected so the provider's own invoicing agrees.
Done when
Credit can be granted and consumed with a ledger that reconciles to the payment provider's customer balance, the member's billing page shows the balance and its history, and an invoice shows credit applied as its own line.
