The question

An entitlement rule carries a per-unit flag. When it is set, a grant of quantity two delivers twice the rule's value; when it is not, quantity is ignored. The flag lives on each rule of an entitlement set. The competing view is that multiplying by quantity is a fact about the thing being sold, not about each allowance it confers: a pack of seats multiplies, a plan does not, and every rule the product confers should follow the product. Which is the right home for the flag?

What depends on the answer

Where an operator declares it and how many times; what a set shared by a pack and a plan can mean; the materialization that multiplies an allowance by the grant's quantity; and the entitlement model's account of what a quantity means.

Options known so far

  • Keep it on the rule, and say in the model why one set can multiply one allowance and not another.
  • Move it to the product, so a set confers the same numbers whoever confers it and the product decides whether quantity scales them.
  • Neither yet: read the history first. The concept has surfaced repeatedly across changes and walks, and for two months the rule form silently stored false for every rule authored through it, so part of the friction reported around the concept was that defect and not the concept. The retrospective comes before the design.

Decided when

The entitlements model states where multiplicability is declared, what a grant of a quantity greater than one delivers, and what happens to the rules that carry the flag today.
