The situation has improved, you now have state in the logs via coop-cloud/organising#518 and coop-cloud/organising#577 shows "unknown" for containers that aren't up yet in abra app ps.

The stack ps implementation does seem to be doing something more involved: https://github.com/docker/cli/blob/master/cli/command/stack/swarm/ps.go and I'm not quite sure how to show up the "preparing" task exactly in the abra app ps output (without all the noise) 🤔
